The Sahara, the Las Vegas Strip’s oldest hotel and casino, will close its doors on May 16. Plans to redevelop the property fell through following Vegas’ recent economic downturn.
Owners SBE Entertainment Group and Stockbridge Real Estate Funds say continuing operations at the aging resort was no longer economically viable.
Plenty of options remain on the table for the property going forward, including a complete renovation and repositioning.
Sahara is now working with MGM Resorts to find rooms for those who have already booked past the May 16 closing date.
The pair will also work to find jobs for affected Sahara employees at ten MGM properties in Las Vegas.
The Sahara was first built in 1952 and was featured in the original “Ocean’s Eleven” film in 1960.
