United Airlines Making Changes to Frequent Flier Fees

This blog post was updated on August 21, 2019.

United Airlines announced late last week that it would be making changes to its frequent flier fees.

Beginning on June 15, “general” members of its Mileage Plus program who book a ticket using frequent flier miles less than 21 days in advance will be subject to a $75 fee.

“Premier” members will pay $50 in the same situation while “premier executive” member will pay just $25.

At the same time, United will lower fees for passengers who wish to change an origin city or destination using their miles.

That service will now cost $75 for general members (down from $150.) Premier members will pay $50 with premier executive members again paying just $25.

The changes were made to mirror Continental Airlines’ frequent flier program more closely. The two airlines merged last October and are currently working to unite their distinct business models.
