“Diana Super Fan” Camping Out for Royal Wedding Since Monday

This blog post was updated on October 8, 2018.

We’re still two days from the highly-anticipated wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, but that hasn’t stopped royal enthusiasts from heading to Westminster Abbey a little early.

One man, John Loughrey (dubbed the “Diana Super Fan” by British press), has been camped out since Monday, hoping to get the best view of Friday’s ceremony.

While camping outside for nearly a week shows impressive dedication, it is far from Loughrey’s most extreme example of royal obsession. In 2007 he quit his job so he could attend all 89 sessions of the inquest into Princess Diana’s death.

A small tent city began to spring up behind Loughrey a few days after the Super Fan officially started the line.

The tent-less Loughrey told TIME, however, that he was not prepared for rain that is predicted to fall during Friday’s nuptials. “I don’t mind if it rains on me. I don’t want it to rain on Catherine or William. I want it to be a nice day so people can celebrate with their flags, and express joy,” he said. You can read the rest of the interview here.
