Chicago is a Midwest holiday favorite for both tourists and locals alike. Known for great architecture, jazz and blues music, Oprah and deep dish pizza, the Windy City offers much to explore for those that pay it a visit.
In the area of attractions, the options are seemingly endless as well, and that fact could lead to hours of contemplation over which should actually be on your itinerary.
To alleviate some of the stress, I have compiled a list of those iconic Chicago attractions that are worth checking out.
Want to see these icons up close and personal? Planning your next jaunt to the Windy City is easier than ever with these cheap flights to Chicago.
Navy Pier: If you’re looking for fun, Navy Pier has something for all senses and all people of all ages. This lakeside playground is equipped with restaurants, shops, shows, tours and events making it a one-stop location for the Chicago tourist with a good time on the agenda. Best of all, it’s located right on Lake Michigan, the perfect backdrop to a day in Chicago.
Sears Tower Skydeck: For panoramic city and skyline views, nothing beats the Sears Tower Skydeck (we’re still not ready to call it Willist Tower.) Up until 1998, this Chicago icon was the tallest building in the world, so you can imagine the thrill one might receive when going up to the top and stepping out in one of the new glass balconies. These ledges protrude out 4.3 feet from the side of the building giving you the chance to look straight down 1,353 feet.
Shedd Aquarium: Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium provides a unique look at the world underwater. Shedd is actually referred to as Chicago’s number one cultural attraction, and it is one pleasing to the masses. Explore aquatic life of all the different regions of the world, watch dolphins jump, see penguins play and be mesmerized by the neon coral displays.
Wrigley Field: Sports lovers need to visit Wrigley Field, the stadium home of the Chicago Cubs baseball team since 1916. This Chicago icon has a very distinct look being decked out in ivy-covered walls that are popular in various parts of Chicago. You can book a tour of Wrigley Field for some behind-the-scenes facts, but the real fun comes from experiencing a live game.
Museum of Science and Industry: The Museum of Science and Industry is the largest science museum in the western hemisphere, so this one always deserves a stop in my book. You can easily spend the entire day exploring the hands-on exhibits, taking part in live science experiments (like dissecting a cow’s eyeball) and indulging in the Omnimax Theater. Seasonal exhibits keep the museum fresh and worth coming back to again and again.
