A new report from AAA predicts a slight dip in the number of Americans traveling this Independence Day weekend.
The prediction comes despite a 9 point increase in the number of Americans who plan to fly to their Fourth of July destination in 2011.
The discrepancy in figures can be blamed on stubbornly high gas prices.
Fewer Americans say they plan to drive to during the holiday as the average price for a gallon of gas remains $1 higher on average than a year ago.
Overall, about 39 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home during the holiday weekend. That figure is down slightly from 40 million in 2010.
