After months of passenger backlash, it appears the TSA may be making a concerted effort toward implementing tiered screening processes for travelers who pose little threat to air safety.
The TSA announced Thursday that it will soon begin testing reduced security screenings for select frequent flyers at some of the nation’s busiest airports.
Some frequent flyers from American Airlines and Delta Airlines will soon be invited to “opt in” to a system that would expedite their screening process.
Passengers who meet criteria for the program may be able to bypass certain current TSA requirements such as removing their shoes or taking laptops out of their bags.
The new system will be implemented at hubs in Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, and Detroit over the next couple of months.
