Kate Middleton and Alexander McQueen helped London surpass New York City as the fashion capital of the world in 2011, according to a new survey.
The finding was a part of an annual study conducted by a Texas-based company called Global Language Monitor.
For the past eight years, the company has tracked the frequency of certain words, phrases, and concepts used in print and internet publications to compile the list of most fashion forward cities.
According to the survey, a royal boost from Kate Middleton and deceased British designer Alexander McQueen helped put London over the top.
Kate Middleton wore a McQueen label in front of an audience of millions during her wedding to Prince William back in April. McQueen’s “Savage Beauty” exhibition, meanwhile, set records all summer long at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The boost was just enough to catapult London past New York for the fashion crown. Paris, Milan and Los Angeles rounded out the top five most fashionable list while Berlin and Singapore both broke into the top 10 for the first time.
