The food truck craze may be sweeping the nation but large mobile vendors are no longer welcome in touristy Midtown Manhattan.
Police and city officials gave food trucks the boot last week after complaints from brick and mortar restaurants and smaller food carts began piling up.
They complained that the large trucks not only took business away from long-established businesses but also created unnecessary congestion on city streets. As a result, large roving food trucks are now banned in much of the Midtown district.
Truck operators, used to adapting on the fly, are already adjusting, with many seeking refuge in private food truck lots throughout the city. Others are seeking new stomping grounds downtown away from tourist attractions.
