In-Flight Wi-Fi Will Grow 600 Percent by 2015, According to Study

This blog post was updated on October 15, 2018.

As more and more passengers gain access to smart phones and tablets, the market for in-flight Wi-Fi is about to explode.

Once seen as an added commodity, in-flight Internet access is becoming a competitive requirement for most airlines.

A new study from research firm In-Stat News suggests that in-flight Wi-Fi will grow 600 percent by 2015.

According to the numbers, airline Wi-Fi revenue will grow from $225 million in 2011 to nearly $1.5 billion by 2015.

The report also notes that simply providing Wi-Fi connectivity won’t be enough to keep airlines competitive in the tech market. As connection becomes the industry norm, the study says consumer demand will shift to extra features and services.
