Chicago’s two main airports announced green initiatives this week during the Airports Going Green conference in the Windy City.
Officials at O’Hare International Airport pledged to dedicate up to 60 acres for the installation of solar panels and also announced plans to build an on-site service station that will sell alternative fuels for commercial and personal vehicles.
Meanwhile, officials at Midway Airport announced a new composting program that will recycle food waste and cardboard from the airport’s 13 restaurants.
Construction at O’Hare is expected to begin about a year from now while the composting program at Midway should launch much sooner.
