This blog post was updated on October 10, 2018.

Portland is a great place to both live and visit. ‘”Why,” you ask?  Read on, traveling friends, and you’ll soon be clamoring for cheap flights to Portland.

Portland is bike friendly. Portland has been voted the most bike-friendly city in America by a variety of travel publications. The city’s infrastructure and traffic laws make biking a mainstream mode of transportation.

Gear-heads will appreciate the myriad bike shops located throughout the city where bikers can stock up on essentials (and cool nonessentials).

Visitors can even take a city bike tour while they’re in town.

Portland eats local. The “locavore” food movement is alive and well in Portland. From the plethora of outdoor markets, to the foodie-friendly restaurants that source local products, you’ll feel good about every bite you take. One restaurant that’s been making headlines is Castagna, whose dishes combine local products with molecular cooking techniques.

Portland is artsy. The impressive Portland Museum of Art is definitely worth a visit. Their collection is so diverse, there’s bound to be something to please any artistic aesthetic. Head to Portland’s Pearl District to check out the lively gallery scene featuring work by local and national artists.

Portland stays caffeinated. Portland is home to a variety of independent coffee shops where you can get your caffeine fix and listen to live music by local artists. Not a bad way to spend a rainy evening. Favorite coffee shops among locals include: Coava Coffee Roasters, BARISTA, Coffee House Northwest, The Fresh Pot, and Stumptown.

Portland likes good music. From classical to alternative, Portland boasts one of the best music scenes in the country. Check out the Oregon Live music calendar to see who will be playing when you’re in town.
