Think shopping for Parisian fashions is too expensive? Think again.
Imagine stumbling upon a gorgeous designer handbag for a song, or a vintage gown à la Inès de la Fressange for 30 euros, or some fabulous 70s bell-bottom jeans for less than 20 euros.
It’s entirely possible, especially if you’re shopping at one of Paris’s popular friperies (second-hand stores).
So, all you fashionistas who’ve scored cheap flights to Paris: Are you ready to go treasure hunting? ! Here are six stores that locals love:
Free’p’star (8 Rue Sainte Croix de la Bretonnerie; 61 Rue de la Verrerie): Located in the sophisticated Marais neighborhood, Free’p’star offers a large selection and low prices. The loose organization of the store means that you have to dig for bargains, but it’s worth it.
Pretty Box (46 Rue de Saintonge): Also located in the Marais, Pretty Box specializes in vintage pieces from the 1970s and 1980s. This is the place to pick up a great pair of bell-bottom jeans and a wide-lapel velvet blazer. The store is divided into a women’s section and a men’s section.
Guerrisol (17 Boulevard de Rochechouart; 45 Boulevard de la Chapelle): With two locations in the Anvers-Barbès neighborhood (and others throughout the city), Guerrisol is a popular friperie known for its huge selection and excellent prices. Whether you’re on the hunt for a fedora or a sequined handbag, you’re sure to find something there to suit your fancy.
Mamie/ Mamie Blue (73 Rue de Rochechouart; 69 Rue de Rochechouart): Also in the Anvers-Barbès neighborhood, Mamie/Mamie Blue specializes in high end vintage clothing and accessories (sunglasses, ties, gloves, hats, handbags and even suitcases).
Episode (10-16 Rue de Tiquetonne): Located in the Etienne Marcel neighborhood, Episode is a well-organized, affordable shop. Here you can find accessories for under 10€, and shirts and jeans for 20€. The owners of this independent shop are very personable.
Thx God I’m a VIP (12 Rue de Lancry): Located in the Bastille-République neighborhood, Thx God I’m a VIP is considered by many locals to be the best second-hand shop in Paris. Prices are reasonable, the store is organized well, and the selection is quite impressive.
