Chicago Chocolate Bars Perfect for a Valentine’s Dessert Stop

This blog post was updated on September 4, 2018.

With chocolate, nothing can go wrong.  Actually, I believe there is almost nothing that chocolate can’t solve.  And, if ever there was a food that spoke the language of love, it would be this gift from God. (Yes, you can quote me on that.)

We’ve already covered some of the romantic restaurants in Chicago for Valentine’s Day, but if you have other plans, then perhaps something small and sweet would be a nice way to end the night — or prolong it if you’re having such a great time.

It also wouldn’t hurt to smooth over any rough patches that might  interfere with an otherwise perfect Valentine’s evening with a sweet treat.

So, if you and your sweetheart are looking for dessert, head to one of these Chicago chocolate bars for a heavenly ending.

Mindy’s Hot Chocolate (1747 N. Damen Ave., Chicago, IL 60647): Mindy’s Hot Chocolate Restaurant and Dessert Bar can service your fourth-meal needs with dishes concocted from seasonal and local products, or just act as the night’s last sweet stop.  Here you’ll find a number of delicious pastry and chocolate desserts, even a chocolate souffle tart.

The real draw would be the hot chocolate, which you can get in all sorts of flavors and strengths.  Choose from milk chocolate, dark chocolate, Mexican chocolate,  and chai chocolate.  You might enjoy the black and tan — a drink of 1/3 hot fudge and 2/3 medium hot chocolate — or the half and half — a drink of 1/2 espresso and 1/2 dark hot chocolate.

Chocolate at the Pen (526 NW 23rd Ave., Portland, OR 97210): The Peninsula offers a special chocolate event every Friday and Saturday night called “Chocolate at the Pen”, so if you are thinking about celebrating your special day the weekend before the 14th, head here.

The package event takes place in the Lobby and includes access to a full chocolate buffet and a choice of a chocolate martini or sparkling wine.  Choose from chocolate strawberries, chocolate mousse, chocolate pecan tart or chocolate tiramisu…just to name a few of the choices.  The full package runs $50 per adult, or choose the smaller $40 package for a selection of small chocolates and unlimited coffee drinks.

On the night of Valentine’s Day, The Peninsula is offering Pierrot Gourmet mini cakes and desserts perfect for two — for take-away or to eat in the cafe.
