Vegetarianism is more than a fad in today’s world; it’s simply a way of life for millions of people in the United States and around the world.
The growing trend is often attributed to a rise in the belief of animal rights or a dislike for the taste of meat.
But the true factor for most people becoming non-meat eaters revolves around one major point — health concerns.
A vegetarian life, if done well, can be very good for your body, and your waistline. Even if you’re not a vegetarian, splicing in days here and there of a vegetarian style can do a body good.
And, when, may I ask, is a better time to “do a body good” than when on vacation (probably partaking in a number of splurging days)? Travelers boarding flights to Portland who are looking for a vegetarian meal will be quite happy to know there are several options on the menu.
Portobello Vegan Trattoria (1125 SE Division St, Portland Oregon): Portobello is described as “Northwest vegan craft cookery”. It bases its meals on made-from-scratch vegan recipes that include beet tartare, veggie burgers and stuffed portobellos. The restaurant also offers cooking classes.
Sweet Lemon Vegan Bistro (4888 NW Bethany Blvd Ste K6, Portland Oregon): Sweet Lemon, a vegetarian fusion restaurant of Asian and American dishes, offers a unique taste in Portland.
The Feel Good World (5816 SW Hood Ave, Portland Oregon): The Feel Good World could be considered more of a spa and wellness center, but it does offer a Mini Marketplace stocked of fresh goodies, snacks, appetizers and entrees.
Fat Kitty Falafel (2016 SE Division St, Portland Oregon): Fat Kitty Falafel has been in Portland since 2002, and it costs just $5 for an order, which you can get with bottled water or natural soda.
Papa G’s Vegan Organic Deli (2314 SE Division St, Portland Oregon): Papa G’s has been around since 1999 and caters to the needs of those with food allergies and vegetarian lifestyles. Choose from the hot entree bar, the salad bar or the sandwich line with options like tofu tacos, chilli, curry dahl and more.
Vege Thai (3272 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland Oregon): At Vege Thai, you can get all of your favorite Thai dishes with tofu and fake meat. Choose from options like spring rolls, tom yum soup, lemongrass chicken and curries to name a few.
Portland has a wide range of vegetarian and vegan dining options that will put most “normal” restaurants to shame. So, don’t worry if you’re not a vegetarian. You might not even notice a difference!
