Following through with a commitment to be the most environmentally conscious hotel in all of the United Kingdom, Lancaster London has become one of the first UK hotels to install two electric car charging stations in its car park.
Guests to the Lancaster are now be able to charge their cars for free, after paying the normal rate to use the car park.
With the rising price of gas and the need to reduce carbon footprints, electric cars are becoming an increasingly popular option in the UK. The move towards electric cars is strongly supported by Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, whose “Electric Vehicle Delivery Plan” aims to make London the electric vehicle capital of Europe.
Installing electric car charging stations is ta forward-thinking, eco-friendly option and Lancaster London is delighted to be able to offer this service to its like-minded guests, and hopes others will follow the example.
This environmentally conscious move is but the latest in green initiatives from the Lancaster London. The hotel is constantly seeking new ways to improve its environmental practices and takes the phrase “to walk softly on the planet” to heart. Other recent schemes have included:
- Installing a honey bee colony on the rooftop of the hotel with half a million bees that produce honey for the hotel’s Island Grill restaurant;
- Achieving 0% landfill waste;
- Replacing traditional table decorations with sustainable, edible pea shoot centrepieces; and
- Organizing and hosting the first London Honey Show in October 2011, which will now become an annual event due to the huge “buzz” it created.
Such efforts have resulted in the Lancaster London being named “AA Eco Hotel of the Year 2012” and winning a Gold Accreditation from the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
But it’s not just the hotel’s eco-friendly initiatives that make you think “green” when considering a stay at the Lancaster London. Hyde Park, the largest of the Royal Parks, is essentially across the street from the hotel directly to the south vistas east to the City of London, Being so scenically situated, the Lancaster offers guests some of the leafiest and arguably best views in and of London. Having a such an idyllic setting and holding itself to a high environmental standard won’t get in the way of having a great urban adventure though. Marble Arch and the shopping meccas of Oxford Circus, Regent Street, Soho and Marylebone are short walks from the hotel with Knightsbridge and Harrods just ten minutes by taxi. The City of London’s financial district is 15 minutes direct by London Underground. Heathrow Airport is less than 20 minutes away via the Heathrow Express from nearby Paddington Railway Station.
