New York City’s famed St. Patrick’s Cathedral is set to undergo a $175 million renovation, according to a report in the New York Post.
The massive project will take over two years to complete and could begin by the end of April. 50 to 100 workers will work each day to replace crumbling marble blocks, refit stained glass windows, and restore old pews.
During the restoration, parts of the interior and exterior of the 133-year-old church will be cloaked in a cobweb of scaffolding and safety netting.
Located on Fifth Avenue, St. Patrick’s Cathedral is both a functioning Catholic church and a major tourist attraction. More than 5.5 million people visit the Cathedral each year.
