Jamie Oliver’s planning
a street party to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his first restaurant, Fifteen.
Not just any restaurant, the idea behind London‘s Fifteen was to give young unemployed
people a second chance and a new direction in life. Through the restaurant (his
first own venture), Jamie hoped to create something completely new for the
times: a restaurant with 25 professional chefs at the helm who would not only
cook outstanding food but also train and mentor a group of apprentices every
year. So maybe he had to remortgage his house without telling his wife about it
to keep things going at one point – ten years on, Fifteen is a delicious
success and still retains its “hand-up” focus on giving people the skills to
thrive in a new career. Over the last decade, Fifteen has grown into a very
special restaurant serving Italian food, and the apprentice program has turned
around the lives of more than 100 people.
On Saturday June 30th,
the street outside the doors of Fifteen will be decked out with bunting.
There’ll be music and family friendly entertainment along with food for all the
guests. Helping Jamie move his party out of the professional kitchen, street
food collective eat.st will be pulling up in a food truck convoy to
join in on the fun.
Eat.st is a group of street food vendors who think “it would be a damn shame if the excitement and magic of
selling food in the open-air didn’t reach more people.” Like Jamie, eat.st is passionate about great food. Eat.st’s mission is to “normalize
good food” by making it more available and visible on British streets. For the
Fifteen shindig, eat.st will combine forces with Jamie to share a mutual
love for real food, brought together to give young people the chance for a
better future.
Some of the amazing street vendors who will be dishing up fantastic food
include The Bowler and their gourmet meatballs, The Rib Man and his legendry
rib sandwiches, and Healthy Yummies who serve up top notch hand-dived scallops
and fresh mackerel sandwiches. And of course, Oliver’s restaurant’s Barbecoa
and Fifteen will be there preparing some of their most popular dishes.
Fifteen is located at 15 Westland Place,
London, N1 7LP. Visit the restaurant online at http://www.fifteen.net.
