Frieze has released details about their upcoming tenth London fair. Sponsored by Deutsch Bank for the ninth consecutive year, Frieze London will take place between the 11th and 14th of October in Regent’s Park per usual in a bespoke temporary structure, designed again by architects Carmody Groarke.
A big event on the calendars of both socialite and art lover, Frieze London is one of the world’s most influential contemporary art fairs and brings with it an international focus to the dynamic contemporary London art scene every October. Think of it as a kind of a grand scale exhibition of carefully selected “forward-thinking” contemporary galleries from around the world.
Frieze London will see a total of 170 exhibitors from 34 countries, thus making it the most international edition of Frieze London and confirming its position as one of the world’s leading contemporary art events with participants from territories including Argentina, China, Colombia, Hungary, India, Korea and South Africa.
This tenth edition of Frieze London will feature a new section, Focus, for galleries established after 2001, showing up to three artists. Focus was first introduced at Frieze New York, which took place back in May. The introduction of Focus will bring a fresh perspective to the fair and a globally broad reach with galleries such as: Algus Greenspon (New York), Casas Riegner (Bogota), Jessica Bradley Art + Projects (Toronto), Chatterjee & Lal (Mumbai), Chert (Berlin), dépendance (Brussels), One And J. Gallery (Seoul) and RaebervonStenglin (Zurich).
This year will also see the introduction of Frieze Masters, a new sister fair offering a contemporary perspective on historical art. Together, the crossover between the long standing Frieze and this new take on old art will further broaden the appeal of London as a hub for international art. Frieze Masters will be a carefully selected presentation of more than 90 of the world’s leading galleries. The fair will give a unique contemporary perspective on art of all ages. Coinciding with, and within walking distance of Frieze London, Frieze Masters will take place 11–14 October 2012, Gloucester Green, Regent’s Park, London, and is sponsored by Deutsche Bank.
Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover, co-directors of Frieze, reckon that “Frieze London and Frieze Masters promise to make London in October one of the most anticipated moments in the international art world calendar.”
