Five iPhone Photo Apps for Travelers

This blog post was updated on August 23, 2018.

Half the fun of going on vacation is taking pictures and sharing them with your friends and family. Over the past few years, as smartphone technology has flourished, taking and sharing pictures has become easier than ever. Here are five iPhone photo sharing apps to check out for your next trip.

Instagram (Free)

Most people have heard of Instagram since they were recently acquired by Facebook for a hefty sum. Instagram allows you to take photos and apply edits, borders, filters and comments before adding them to your photostream or sharing them directly on Facebook or Twitter. Part of Instagram’s appeal is that it’s incredibly easy to use.

Camera+ ($0.99)

Similar to Instagram, Camera+ offers a variety of borders filters to enhance your photos. The most recent version has a clarity filter, contrast and levels adjustment features, anti-shake features and the ability to set exposure and focus independently. You can share your beautiful photos by email or on your favorite social networking site.

ShakeIt Photo ($0.99)

If you’re nostalgic for the old Polaroid days, you’ll love ShakeIt. This app allows you to take photos that then “develop” on the screen in front of you as you shake it. A fun way to give your vacation photos a retro flair. You can email your “Polaroids” or share them on Facebook.

Procamera ($2.99)

It’s a bit pricier than the others, but serious photographers will enjoy the options and quality offered by Procamera. It’s user friendly, and offers an unlinked focus/exposure system and options for setting color tone, as well as all of the features you’ll find in Camera+. You can upload photos to Facebook, Twitter Dropbox, or Flickr one at a time or in bulk.

Hipstamatic ($1.99)

Most iPhone users I know either love or hate Hipstamatic. Here’s why: It takes a while to set-up your shot (longer than the apps mentioned above), but that’s also part of its charm because the app is based on old analog toy cameras. With Hipstamatic, you also have many options when it comes to film, lenses and flashes, which allow you to create a unique look for each shot. After you capture the perfect vacation image, share it easily on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr or Tumblr.
