As the calendar rolls over to March, many travelers have Ireland on their minds. The green dream of a country takes to the world stage in March as it hosts its biggest celebration, Saint Patrick’s Day. If you have already decided to spend this March with Ireland, you will need a little more than just the luck of the Irish to get you around the country. Luckily, there are a number of apps that you can pack on your smartphone to assist with finding everything from discounts on attractions to deciphering the strange sounds of the Irish language.
B&B Ireland: Part of the Irish travel experience involves staying in bed and breakfasts. The B&B Ireland iPhone app makes it possible to find those cutesy properties and their hearty Irish breakfasts. B&B Ireland features over 1,100 Irish Tourist Board and Northern Ireland Tourist Board approved bed and breakfast properties. You can view the properties by searching through their images and descriptions. Aside from lending each bed and breakfasts’ contact information, you can also see their up to the minute availability for the traveler on the go. B&B Ireland is a free app.
Restaurants.ie: Locating a good meal in Ireland is made easy with the Restaurants.ie app. Specifically designed for dining in Ireland, the app helps you find a restaurant near you. You can filter the results by location, service, cuisine and price. The app also features restaurants ratings, contact information and menus to scroll through before you pick your eatery. In addition to restaurants, the app also features cafes and takeaways. You can download the app for free.
Ireland Discount Guide: If there is one thing that I learned about Ireland on my travels it is that a trip to the country can quickly add up in price, especially with entrance fees. The Ireland Discount Guide app helps travelers save money by offering discounts for 95 of the country’s top attractions. To receive the offers or reduced prices, you merely show the app at the attraction. Some of those attractions with special discounts include the Guinness Storehouse, the Cliffs of Moher and Titanic Belfast. The app comes free of charge from Heritage Island.
Get The Focal: If you speak English, you might think that you won’t have any lost in translation moments while visiting Ireland. However there are plenty of pockets of the country that still speak the Irish language. Get the Focal app is more of just a fun tool to uncover words that you might come across while traveling the country. The app uses the O’Dónaill Dictionary, the Irish terminology database and Google translate. While the word translations are available without an Internet connection, in order to use the pronunciation feature, you will have to find some WiFi. The app costs $3.99.
