Dining in unique restaurants is one of the most enjoyable parts of our regular visits to Los Angeles. However, I have to admit that our dining habits have changed a bit since we’ve become parents. Fortunately, there are many excellent restaurants in the Los Angeles area that are also kid-friendly. Here are my top five recommendations.
10319 Venice Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90034
This bustling Cuban restaurant is the perfect place for not-so-quiet diners. Versailles vibrant décor also gives the kids something to look at and discuss while waiting for their food. Oh, and the food! From the fried plantains to the savory meat dishes, it’s not difficult to find something to please everyone in the family.
419 N. Fairfax Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90036
L.A.’s deli par excellence is a great place to bring the kids. Its casual atmosphere, accessible-yet-fun menu (my toddler loves the giant matzo ball soup), and laid-back vibe make for a very comfortable family dining experience. Oh yes, be sure to save room for a black and white frosted cookie for dessert.
1445 Fourth St.
Santa Monica, CA 90401
Located just off the action-packed Santa Monica 3rd street promenade (a pedestrian shopping thoroughfare and a great place to let the kids run off some pent up energy), Border Grill has become an L.A. institution. This woman-owned, Latin fusion restaurant provides plenty of kid-friendly options, as well as dishes that will please picky adult foodies. The interesting, colorful décor doesn’t hurt, either.
1014 Wilshire Blvd.
Santa Monica, CA
If the kids (or adults) are hankering for something sweet, head over the Huckleberry café and bakery. This charming spot offers an array of freshly baked goods, light fare, and excellent people-watching. Check out their Thursday family-night dinners (a delicious deal)!
Farmer’s Market at The Grove
6333 W.3rd St.Los Angeles, CA 90036
The always-open farmer’s market at The Grove offers a plethora of casual dining options. From fresh salads to fois gras, there are dishes to suit every taste. The best thing is that each family member can grab something from a different restaurant before meeting back at the communal outdoor dining area! After your meal, take some time to explore this historic spot, filled with a wonderful array of vendors.
