This blog post was updated on August 12, 2021.

Aircell, the company which provides Goo Wi-Fi internet service on a number of US carriers, said it plans to implement satellite technology that will allow wireless internet connections on international flights by 2015.

The company currently operates a land-based system that allows passengers to connect wirelessly on continental flights only.

Aircell also plans to upgrade its existing system by 2012; a move its says will speed up connection speed about four times.

More than 6,000 business and commercial aircraft are currently equipped with Aircell technology, including planes owned by American and United Airlines.
