Hong Kong Airlines Turns to Kung Fu to Deal With Disruptive Passengers

This blog post was updated on July 23, 2021.

Hong Kong Airlines is asking its cabin crew to learn wing chun, a form of kung fu, as a way to deal with unruly passengers.

On average, the airline deals with three disruptive passengers a week, according to a spokeswoman.

The kung fu solution came about after a crew member recently used her personal training to deal with a drunk passenger.

Many cabin crewmembers are excited about the training. “You cannot predict what will happen on the plane, so wing chun is good because it’s so fast,” said new attendant, Lumpy TangTang, “I feel safer because I can defend myself.”
