The world’s first Google store opened quietly inside of a PC World in London on Monday morning as the tech giant tests the retail waters for the first time.
The pilot “Chrome Zone” shop is just one of many set to open worldwide in the coming weeks. The London shop-within-a-shop will remain open on Tottenham Court Road at least through Christmas.
If the pilot shops prove successful, Google could make a larger splash in the retail market down the road. Rival Apple has already shown how successful brick-and-mortar stores can be.
Since the first Apple Store opened back in 2001, nearly 300 more have popped up around the globe, welcoming millions of visitors each year.
