Exhibit at Smithsonian Museum to Chronicle Ordeal of Trapped Chilean Miners

The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History will open an exhibit Friday which chronicles the ordeal of 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground for more than two months following a shaft collapse back in 2010.

The exhibit, “Against All Odds,” will include one of the specially-made rescue capsules used to free the miners during a dramatic rescue attempt that played out on live television.

Visitors will also get a unique look at personal mementos from the miners as well as exclusive footage filmed during their harrowing two-month experience.

Friday’s exhibit opening coincides with the one year anniversary of the mine’s collapse. The miners became instant worldwide celebrities when they were finally rescued 69 days later on October 13, 2010.
