Ilha de Queimada Grande is a 110-acre island off the coast of São Paulo, Brazil. It’s rather small as far as islands are concerned. It looks lush and welcoming. One might even call it charming.
But you really wouldn’t want to live here. In fact, if you set foot on what the Huffington Post has dubbed the deadliest island on Earth, you’d most likely die an excruciating death. There are more than 4,000 residents on this island. None of them have legs, but some of them have venom capable of melting the flesh off your bones.
Say hello to the golden lancehead (Bothrops insularis). It has no predators and it will hunt you in your dreams tonight. Consider your fantasy of vacationing on a tropical island ruined. Sorry not sorry.
