Heavy Snow Continues to Disrupt European Travel Plans

This blog post was updated on October 12, 2018.

The heavy snow in Europe forced airports such as London Heathrow to cancel flights for the fourth day, persuading Britain to seek scientific advice on whether the heaviest early snow falls in 17 years mean winter is getting colder.

Tens of thousands of people attempting to head home or on vacation for Christmas since the weekend remain trapped as Heathrow, Europe’s busiest airport, presently operates at one-third of capacity.

Britain is going to ask its chief scientific adviser if blizzards that began last month, combined with the worst cold snap in 20 years last winter is proof of a “step change” that would justify increased spending on cold-weather gear.
