A new study released by the Central Park Conservancy offers an in-depth look at the people who visit Central Park.
According to the data, Central Park welcomes between 37 and 38 million people each year. Most of the visitors (nearly 70 percent) are native residents of New York City while an additional three percent come from the surrounding metropolitan area.
12 percent of the visitors come from elsewhere in the US while 16 percent are visitors from abroad.
Most surprisingly, the study found that most visitors stay in the southern end of the park. 75 percent of the park’s visitors enter through the south side, according to the data.
The Conservancy will use the findings as fodder to develop more tours and programs that highlight the lesser-visited north end.
