While the term kid-friendly doesn’t exactly leap to mind when one thinks of the typical activities that take place on The Strip, Las Vegas has lots to keep the under 21 set entertained. And contrary to the adult credo, your young travelers will want to tell everyone they know about “what happens in Vegas.” Here are my top 5 suggestions for kid-friendly activities in Las Vegas (that are pretty fun for adults, too).

Downtown Container Park

Downtown Container Park is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. This outdoor shopping and dining district, made completely out of shipping containers, is fun for the whole family. The kids will love the Treehouse area that was made just for them. It includes a 33-foot slide, water area, NEOS play system, and more. Every night, a different live music group performs in the outdoor amphitheater.

Las Vegas Natural History Museum

900 Las Vegas Blvd N, Las Vegas, NV 89101

This museum is located about five miles off The Strip. The museum’s diverse, interactive exhibits are geared for kids and include Dinosaur Mummy CSI, Treasures of Egypt, the International Wildlife Gallery, the Marine Life Gallery, and the MGM/Mirage Young Scientist Center. It’s a great, relatively inexpensive place to spend an afternoon.

Ethel M Chocolate Factory

2 Cactus Garden Drive, Henderson, NV 89014

parents and their daughter are choosing chocolates, Las Vegas

A Las Vegas institution for over 100 years, the Ethel M Chocolate Factory offers behind-the-scenes tours during which kids can learn how the chocolates are made. That in and of itself is pretty cool, but getting to try free samples is even better. After touring the factory, check out the adjacent botanical garden.

Las Vegas Town Square Children’s Park

Town Square Park, Las Vegas, NV 89119

One of Vegas’s premier shopping and dining areas is Town Square. Right in the midst of the action is a 13,000 square foot kids area that includes a tree house in a 42-foot tall live oak tree, a princess tower playhouse, a bakery café playhouse geared for toddlers, a hedge maze, a pop-jet fountain, and a stage for children’s concerts and story time.

Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay

3950 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89119

One of the largest aquariums in North America is located in the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, where kids of all ages will be dazzled by the golden crocodiles, komodo dragons, and, of course, sharks in this amazing, multi-tank wonderland.

Vegas doesn’t have to be all about the bright lights and adult attractions. The city has plenty of places where the whole family can find something to keep themselves entertained.
