As the weather turns cooler and summer fades into fall, there’s one highly-anticipated celebration that autumn enthusiasts can’t help but look forward to–Oktoberfest! This annual affair is a dream come true for anyone who enjoys good food, great beer, and a wonderful opportunity to explore Germany’s culture. The 200-year-old event runs from September through October (hence the name) and is now celebrated all across the globe. But where should you go to make the most of this seasonal favorite?

Remember, all Oktoberfest celebrations are not created equal: we’ve got the list of the top spots to celebrate in serious style.

Munich – Germany

It should go without saying that if you truly want to experience Oktoberfest, you’ll need to book some flights to Germany. The celebration runs for 17 days, and each one is filled with gallons of amazing beer (millions of gallons are consumed during the event), visitors from all across the globe, and a wide variety of the greatest culinary treats Germany has to offer. There’s virtually no end to the fun and excitement, from joyous parades to folk dancing and more. For an authentic Oktoberfest, Munich is the place to be.

Cincinnati, Ohio – USA

If you’re looking for the largest Oktoberfest celebration stateside, Ohio is your destination of choice. Besides the great beer and food you’ve come to expect from this event, you’ll get the hilarious (and utterly adorable) Running of the Wieners. This popular competition features more than 100 dachshunds in hot dog costumes racing to see who will end up as the proud pooch to bring home the gold. It’s a fun-filled affair, and a wonderful opportunity to see a side of Cincinnati that you’ve never experienced before.

Blumenau – Brazil

Brazil has a large German population, and they love sharing their cultural pride during Oktoberfest. Travelers come from across the country and the world to experience this unique melding of cultures. You’ll be able to sample an assortment of German beers alongside those brewed in Brazil. Whatever you choose to imbibe will go down great with the tantalizing mix of Brazilian meals and German specialties. Then when you’ve had your fill of good food and drink, you can stroll along the streets and experience the nightlife of Brazil!

Yokohama – Japan

Variety is the spice of life, and if you travel to Japan to experience their version of Oktoberfest, you’re in for a treat. This exceedingly popular and fun-filled celebration provides beer connoisseurs with over 200 different types to sample. Find the one that best suits your tastes as you listen to German music played by local bands, offering a unique twist on the traditional Oktoberfest.

Bangalore – India

Providing thirsty visitors with an assortment of German and Indian beers to choose from, Oktoberfest in Bangalore is more like a gigantic fair than anything else. Hosted by Kingfisher, India’s leading brewery, this raucous and enjoyable event also features a street fair, flea market, a music festival, and virtually endless food carts to explore. With over 20,000 visitors every year, this is one Oktoberfest you won’t want to miss out on.

Kitchener – Ontario

Looking for an Oktoberfest celebration that’s a little more kid-friendly? If you want an event you can bring the whole family too, the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest could be exactly what you’ve been hoping for! While the adults enjoy the beer options provided by the event, kids can enjoy the bright floats in the parade, compete in different contests to win prizes, learn about German culture, or even try their skills at ‘Oktoberfest Idol,’ a talent show they’ll love being a part of. It’s a great way to let the whole family take part in Oktoberfest!
