5 Best Restaurants for Service in the UK

This blog post was updated on October 1, 2018.

UK restaurant bookings site, toptable, has announced the winners of its 2013 Diners’ Choice awards for the Top 50 Restaurants for Service in the UK. The awards represent the “combined opinions of approximately 350,000 reviews submitted between September 2013 and Auguest 2013 by verified toptable diners for more than 4,000 restaurants across the UK. All restaurants with a minimum “overall” score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration.  Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the highest average rating in the service category.

Says Lucy Taylor, Head of Restaurant Relations for toptable, about the list:

The most memorable part of a meal may not be just what’s on your plate, but also, the exceptional staff member who goes the extra step to ensure an enjoyable dining experience. From owners and executive chefs to servers and line cooks, the dedicated professionals at these restaurants are creating carefully orchestrated, personalised dining experiences that appear effortless yet make guests feel appreciated and indulged all at once.

Here’s a look at the list’s top five restaurants. There’s three in London, one in a small village in the Berkshire countryside and one in Birmingham.

1. Restaurant Gordon Ramsay
68 Royal Hospital Road, London SW3 4HP

2. The Fat Duck
High Street, Bray, West Berkshire SL6 2AQ

3. Carters of Moseley
2C St Mary’s Row, Wake Green Road, Moseley, Birmingham B13 9EZ

4. HKK
88 Worship Street, London EC2A 2BE

5. Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester
53 Park Lane, London W1K 1QA

Alas, I’ve only had the opportunity to visit one of these fantastic restaurants, HKK, over the past year. However, I can attest that service was exceptional and – food and drink aside – resulted in one of the nicest dining experiences of 2013 for me. I’m also happy to say that over the decade I’ve lived in the UK (I’m originally from the States) that restaurants in Britain, especially here in London, have gone a long way to all but shrugged off their infamous reputation for less than stellar service. This really is a fantastic place for quality dining and your patronage is appreciated.
