Portland is the largest city in the state of Oregon and the seat of
Multnomah County in the US. It is a major port in the Pacific Northwest and
is located at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. The
city attracts thousands of visitors with its top-class cultural attractions
spanning music, entertainment, theatre and art galleries- and it tops the
surreal effect with its vibrant nightlife. Beer lovers will find the city a
lot of fun because it is home to many historic micro-breweries and
distilleries while nature lovers will find a lot of happiness in the
Japanese Garden, which is one of the largest gardens of its type in the
world.
Things to do in Portland
Washington Park
The Washington Park in Portland is a one-stop point to see how beautiful a
combination of colours and fragrance can be. Created on a wild land
purchased by the city in 1871, the garden has now beautifully evolved into
many smaller gardens, none more famous than International Rose Test Garden
where new varieties of roses are grown. This is seconded by the Portland
Japanese Garden, which is one of the largest of its kind in the world.
Portland Art Museum
Founded in 1892, the Portland Art Museum is the oldest museum in the
Pacific Northwest. It is home to more than 42000 artefacts and objects of
historic and cultural importance. Some highlights here include Native
American artefacts, English silver, Asian art, and Northwest art. One can
also take out time to appreciate Vincent Van Gogh's Cart with Black Ox
painting.
Japanese Garden
Spread across 12 acres in the Washington Park in Portland, the Japanese
Garden is built on the site of a former and closed zoo. The garden was
opened in 1961 and has beautifully evolved into many landscaped styles that
all offer a uniquely peaceful experience. Also, of note here are garden
spaces like Flat Garden, the Strolling Pond Garden, and a Tea Garden.
