Austin, the capital of the U.S. state of Texas, is the second most populous
state capital. This city is the southernmost state capital in the
contiguous 48 states of the country. The city was originally included as
‘Waterloo’ but was retitled as Austin to honor the ‘Father of Texas’,
Stephen F. Austin, who had also served as the first US Secretary of State
in 1839. This city is dubbed ‘The Live Music Capital of the World’ for the
reason that it is home to many musicians and live music venues, and also
since it hosts an annual film and music festival entitled the South by
Southwest (SXSW). This event is organized every year in March and churns
out a huge attendance running into thousands.
