Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Dana-Thomas House is another historic site which should not be missed during your trip to the city. Visit the Adams Wildlife Sanctuary and indulge in hiking or keep strolling here from sunrise to sunset! Check out the Clayville Historic Site, the oldest brick building in Sangamon County. Interested in wines? Head towards the Danenberger Family Vineyards, modern artisanal winery, located just few minutes from the capital city. Also, visit the Henson Robinson Zoo and see the native and exotic animals from North & South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
Abraham Lincoln Presidential MuseumThe Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum has been designed carefully with great historical details. Housed here are greatly preserved artifacts depicting the entire life story of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the country. The museum features interactive displays, multimedia programs, high-tech exhibits, and a reproduction of the White House as it used to look in 1861. Items from the Lincoln Collection are displayed in the Museum’s Treasures Gallery on a rotating basis and include the evening gloves in President Lincoln's pocket the night he was assassinated, the quill pen used to sign the Emancipation Proclamation, and an original hand-written copy of the Gettysburg Address.
Dana-Thomas HouseDesigned by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Dana-Thomas House is amongst the most lavish and unique structures of early Prairie period. The home was constructed for Susan Lawrence Dana, a Springfield socialite. Here are more than 100 pieces of oak furniture designed by Wright, around 250 art glass light fixtures & lamps. The gallery/ballroom and the barrel-vaulted dining room are most photographed spaces in the history of American architecture.
