Located on the north-eastern end of Upper Peninsula, the city of Sault Ste. Marie lies in the Chippewa County of Michigan, US. It is the second most populous city in the Upper Peninsula. Sault Ste. Marie is amongst well known vacation destinations in the region. The city plays host to the annual International 500 Snowmobile Race (I-500) and attracts spectators from all over the country and Canada. Garlyn ZooThe Garlyn Zoo is a small family run zoo in the pine forests on the banks of Michigan Lake. The zoo provides friendly atmosphere for all visitors including children. Located in its vicinity are pine trees and cedar mulched trails. The zoo is home to countless animals from North America and from rest of the world. Some of these are black bear, wolves, bobcat, alligator, whitetail deer, river otter, porcupine, wallaby, sika deer, ring-tailed lemur, reindeer, sulcata tortoise, and more.
The River History MuseumAnyone who is keen in knowing the vast history of the Sault Ste. Marie should definitely visit the River History Museum. The audio presentation will educate and entertain people of all ages including children. There are self guided tours in the museum which illustrate the region's history till 20th century. Housed here are around 11 separate galleries including the 20th Century and The First People. There is a shop from where one can purchase souvenirs.
Soo Lock Boat ToursEnjoy and relax while taking the narrated boat cruise on the St. Mary's River and the sight-seeing in the Sugar Island North Channel. Narrator will educate you about various sights along the waterfronts. The Soo Locks Boat Tour is a delightful experience in which one must indulge in.
