Popular Destinations in Reunion
Le Piton de La Fournaise
One of the most active volcanoes of the planet, Le Piton de La Fournaise is
the most visited place of Reunion Island. This volcano is probably the most
thrilling attraction of the Indian Ocean too. Le Piton de La Fournaise is a
mythic volcano that can be visited by microlight planes or helicopter.
However, the best way to explore the volcano is the harder way i.e.
trekking! There are several reasons making the trek gratifying. Among these
reasons, the stunning view from above, enjoyed by those who make it to the
peak is the most enticing.
Mafate
One of the three well-known calderas found at the heart of Reunion Island,
the caldera of Mafate features a small village of the same name. It is a
unique village as it is located about 2000 metres above sea level. For
those who are in search of spending a day in an unusual place, this village
is certainly an excellent place to visit. Mafate is a sort of incommunicado
with the remaining of the world. There are no roads here and there is no
chance of coming across a bus or a car. Walking is the only way to explore
the caldera of Mafate.
Cilaos
Cilaos is a beautiful caldera located adjacent to Mafate. Unlike its
neighbor Mafate, Cilaos can be reached by road. Cilaos is well-known for
its stunning waterfalls and canyons where lots of extreme sports activities
like rock climbing or canyoning can be enjoyed.
