Popular Tourist Destinations in Kyrgyzstan
Bishkek
Bishkek is the capital city of Kyrgyzstan. The city borders Central Asia's
Tian Shan Range and is a gateway to the Ala Archa National Park and the
Kyrgyz Ala-Too Mountains. Bishkek’s arts scene includes colonnaded Opera
and Ballet Theater and the imposing State Museum of Fine Arts. The Central
Ala-Too Square in the city boasts Manas Monument that pays tribute to the
hero of the Kyrgyz Epic of Manas. An excellent place to visit for history
lovers, the Soviet-era State History Museum is located next to the
presidential White House and introduces visitors to the country's history
and ethnic groups. Nature lovers can head towards Dubovy Park, famed for
its oak trees and sculptures.
Karakol
Formerly named as Przhevalsk, Karakol is the fourth largest city in the
country. The city is located near the eastern tip of Lake Issyk-Kul, around
150 kilometers from the Kyrgyzstan-China border and around 380 kilometers
from Bishkek. The city is known for its upscale resorts and traditional
buildings.
Osh
Also spelled Os, Osh is the second largest city in Kyrgyzstan. The city is
in the Fergana Valley in the south of the country. Often referred to as the
"Capital of the South," Osh is the oldest city in the country. The city
boasts an ethnically mixed population including Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, Tajiks,
Russians, and other smaller ethnic groups. Osh is located around 5 km away
from the Uzbekistan border.
