Currently (since 2006) known as Ulukhaktok, Holman Island is a small hamlet
located on the west coast of Victoria Island, in the Inuvik Region of
Northwest Territories in Canada. The major sources of income here are
trapping, hunting, and fishing. The hamlet was founded as a Roman Catholic
mission in the 1930s. Holman Island is renowned for qivuit-fur garments,
muskox-horn carvings, and especially stone-cut prints. Tourists can see
artists at work and buy their wares at the Ulukhaktok Arts Centre.
