Great Basin National ParkLocated at a distance of around 67 miles from Ely, Great Basin National Park is a United States National Park most commonly accessed by the Nevada State Route 488. The park derives its name from the Great Basin, which is a mountainous area between the Wasatch Mountains and Sierra Nevada. There are 100 species of conifer trees and more than 800 species of plants in the park and the neighboring valleys. The fauna species in the park include 61 species of mammals, 238 species of birds, 8 species of fish, 18 species of mammals, and 2 species of amphibians.
White Pine County MuseumOpened in 1959 with the help and donations of many citizens in White Pine County, White Pine County Museum is an excellent place to visit for history buffs. The exhibits in White Pine County Museum includes a jail cell from the old Ely City Jail, a historic bell from Hamilton, the bones of two giant short-faced bears (Arctodus simus), early record books of White Pine County, and much more.
