Shwedagon Pagoda

One of the most sacred sites in the city, Shwedagon Pagoda is located upon the holy Singuttara Hill. This site is visible from miles away. This pagoda enshrines the ruins of eight hairs of Gautama Buddha and three earlier buddhas. Shwedagon Pagoda rises to 99.4 meters and the top of this pagoda is tipped with a 76-carat diamond. As per the beliefs, this pagoda is somewhat 2,500 years old.

Sule Pagoda

A holy, historical, and navigational landmark in the city, Sule Pagoda is said to be approximately 2,000 years old and features a hair that was offered by the Gautama Buddha to two Burmese merchants. This pagoda is positioned on a roundabout in the downtown Yangon. The octagonal shape of this golden pagoda continues right up to the inverted bowl and the bell. Sule Pagoda is enclosed by small shops and offices of several palmists and astrologists.

Kandawgyi Garden

Also named as Kandawgyi Nature Park, Kandawgyi Garden is a popular recreation center of this city. The garden is spread in about 110 acres of area along with the 150 acres of water area making the total area of the park to 260 acres. Tourists can find an assortment of large shady trees, beautiful flowers, and the natural scene of the lake water. The garden also boasts a children's playground, an orchid garden, the souvenir shops, a mini zoo, and a lot of restaurants.

Bogyoke Aung San Market

Also known by its former name of Scott Market, Bogyoke Aung San Market was built in 1926 under a design based on that of the British colonial period. There are several European looking cobblestone streets outside of the market. At this market, one can buy from a selection of items ranging from souvenirs, Burmese dresses, jewelry, handicraft, and artwork.
