Giraffe Centre
Giraffe Centre is located outside the city. The motive behind the establishment of the centre is to set up a breeding centre for the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
Located near the Nairobi National Park is the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. The orphanage was set up by Daphne Sheldrick, widow of David Sheldrick (Kenya’s best known Game Wardens) and is managed by her till date. The orphanage focuses on the conservation of Elephants. The orphan elephant calves from all over the country are brought here. The highly dedicated staffs of the orphanage take care of these calves 24/7. Later these calves are reintroduced into wild herds at Tsavo National Park.
Rock Art (Nairobi National Park)
The rock shelters and overhangs within Nairobi National Park fall under the cultural heritage. These rock shelters and overhangs were once used by Maasai Pastoralists and Ndorobo hunter. Rock paintings can be seen at one of the overhangs in the Mokoiyete Valley (South of the park) and are said to be more than 100 years old.
