Siddhivinayak Temple
The Siddhivinayak Temple is located in a suburb of Mumbai at Prabhadevi. The temple is dedicated to the Lord Ganesha. It was built in the beginning of the 19th Century by Laxman Vithu and Deubai Patil. The major highlight of the temple is a statute of the Lord Ganesha, carved out of Single black stone, with trunk on the right side. The idols of Riddhi and Shiddi (goddesses of sanctity, success, wealth and prosperity) have been placed on the each side of the Lord Ganpati. The temple has wooden doors on which are carved the images of Ashtavinayak (eight manifestations of the Lord Ganesha).
Elephanta Caves
Elephanta Caves, located on the Elephanta Island (Gharapuri, meaning the city of caves), are a vast network of sculpted caves. The Elephanta Island lies at a distance of nearly 10 kilometres from the city in Mumbai Harbour. There are two groups of caves, large and small. The large group comprises five Hindu Caves and the smaller group consists of two Buddhist Caves. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Hindu Caves have rock cut stone sculptures dating back to 5th and 8th century. Until the beginning of Portuguese rule, the Great Cave (Cave 1 or Main Cave) was a place of worship for Hindus. To preserve the art work, the caves were declared World Heritage Site in the year 1987.
Haji Ali Dargah
The Haji Ali Dargah was built in the year 1431 in the middle of the Arabian Sea. It has been created in the memory of Sayyed Peer Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. The main structure with white dome and minarets has been created on an elevated platform. Located behind the Dargah is the Kinara Masjid and Qawwal Khana, an open chamber, adjacent to the tomb. The Qawwal Khana is a stage for Sufi singers for singing qawwalis.
