Wailing Wall and Jewish Quarter
The holiest site in Judaism, Wailing Wall is the surviving retaining wall of city's First Temple. Since the Ottoman era, this sacred site has been a place of pilgrimage of Jews. The Jewish Quarter, spread from the Zion Gate to the Western Wall Plaza, is also a prominent religious site with a number of highlights. Jerusalem Archaeological Park, located in the Jewish Quarter, is the place where archaeologists have discovered the remnants of old Jerusalem. Some of the other major attractions at Jewish Quarter are Jewish Quarter Street and the Western Wall Tunnels.
Haram Al-Sharif
One of the most sacred sanctuaries around the world, Haram Al-Sharif offers visitors opportunity to pursue the footstep of centuries of pilgrims. This religious site is equally lauded by Christians, Jews, and Muslims. As per the legends, it is the site when Abraham is said to have offered his son as a sacrifice to God. Moreover, it is also a common belief that it is the site where the Prophet Muhammad proceeded to heaven in his early days of preaching and it is the same site where the Solomon built the First Temple for the Ark of the Covenant. The shimmering Dome of the Rock is the most iconic landmark of the city.
Church of the Holy Sepulchre
The holiest site in the city for Christians, Church of the Holy Sepulchre is believed to have been constructed on site where Jesus was crucified. Empress Helena, the mother of Constantine the Great, chose this site for the church during her visit to the Holy Land. The church was announced as the Calvary (or Golgotha) of the gospels to the Byzantine world.
Armenian Quarter
Located in the Old City, Armenian Quarter is one of the most tranquil corners to explore in Jerusalem. Within the tiny quarters of this area are the St. Mark's Chapel and St. James Cathedral. This area was the place where Armenians used to settle. Armenians have been a part of region's community for centuries- in Ottoman Era and after the Armenian massacres in Turkey during early 20th century.
