Hagatna

Hagatna is the capital and administrative center of Guam. It is situated along a beach surrounding Hagatna Bay. Hagatna was once the most populous part of the country from 18th to 20th century but following a rapid destruction in the Second World War, it is now the second smallest region in Guam. Some of the major highlights here include a beachside multi-storied latte stone formation, the Council of the Arts and Humanities gallery and a local guided tour that makes sense of all pre-war latte stones, Spanish-era buildings and Second World War fortifications to the visitors. It is best to visit Hagatna on July 21 for the annual Liberation Day parade.

Ritidian Point

Ritidian Point is a part of Guam National Wildlife Refuge and is situated alongside an unspoiled beach at the northernmost tip of Guam. Ritidian Point is situated under limestone cliffs on the northern part of the island and is spread across 374-acres. It springs to a colorful life only on weekends when visitors swarm this beach but is almost deserted for the rest of the week. Ritidian Point is also the archaeological site of a former barrier reef where some of the last confirmed animal species native to Guam are found.

The Guam National Wildlife Refuge

The Guam National Wildlife Refuge protects Ritidian Point and is focused on sustaining endemic and endangered species. It is home to a wide range of birds, reptiles, and other mammals. The Guam National Wildlife Refuge is best known for its powdery white sandy beach, an old village, some ancient caves, a limestone cliff-line, about two miles worth of trails, some centuries old latte stone structures and a few cultural sites. The Nature Center building here offers a kaleidoscopic view of how Guam has evolved through last 500 years.

The War in the Pacific National Historical Park

The War in the Pacific National Historical Park is a former battlefield of the Second World War that now doubles up as a protected site and a tourist magnet in Guam. It was established in 1978 as a mark of respect to the fallen Allied soldiers who had given their lives while liberating Guam from Imperial Japanese Army during the war. The War in the Pacific National Historical Park is centrally hallmarked by two military museums in addition to an eerie presence of machine gun emplacements, trenches, tunnels and some other defensive structures dating back to that period.
