Alhambra
Alhambra is the most famous architectural marvel in Granada. It was a palace, citadel, fortress, and living place for government officials and elite soldiers of Nasrid Dynasty during 13th and 14th centuries. It was built during Moorish civilization in Europe and it leaves visitors spellbound with its splendid architecture, lush gardens, water fountains and panoramic views of the city. Also of note are the decorative tiles used in Alhambra because they contain nearly all of the seventeen mathematical classifications of a two-dimensional repetitive pattern.
Palacio de Generalife
The Palacio de Generalife was the summer palace and country estate of the Nasrid rulers in Al-Andalus. This more than 700-year old architectural marvel basically consists of a palace and adjacent gardens, and the duo was decorated over a period of 11 years post the construction. Another attraction in this famous summer palace is Patio de la Acequia. Literally implying Water-Garden Courtyard, it is a beautiful pool bounded by flowers, fountains and resting pavilions, and is considered to be one of the best preserved medieval Persian gardens in Al-Andalus.
Cathedral of Granada
Built in 16th century, the Cathedral of Grenada is best known for its ornate Renaissance architecture raised over the site of a former mosque. Its most unusual characteristic is that it was designed in Gothic style but the structure was later built in the Renaissance style, only to be topped with Baroque style on its façade. Other notable attractions in the cathedral are its main altar, Capilla Mayor Sanctuary (and its superbly decorated domed ceiling) and its remarkable collection of paintings, mirrors, and furnishings.
Palacio de Carlos V (Palace of Charles V)
Palace of Charles V was added to Alhambra after a considerable period of 200 years. Built in 16th century, it was the royal residence of Charles V who wanted a residence close to other Alhambra palaces. The Palace of Charles V is a double-storied, square-shaped Renaissance structure bounded by a circular courtyard and a colonnade. It also plays host to two museums, called the Museo de la Alhambra and the Museo de Bellas Artes. The former is located on the ground floor and is home to a remarkable collection of Moorish artifacts and artworks, while the latter is located a floor above it and has a superb collection of fine arts and other classic artworks.
