The National Museum of Tanzania
The National Museum of Tanzania is a group of 5 Tanzanian museums in Dar es Salaam. They are the Village Museum, the National History Museum, the Arusha Declaration Museum and the Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Memorial Museum. This consortium is led by the fifth museum in the list - Dar es Salaam National Museum, which is dedicated to King George V and was established in 1934. It is seconded by the Village Museum (that showcases life of 16 different Tanzanian ethnic groups) and Arusha Declaration Museum (it contains several important documents related to the colonial history of Tanzania and its struggle for independence).
Askari Monument
The Askari Monument in Dar es Salaam stands as a proud reminder to the askari soldiers who had participated in the First World War under the British Carrier Corps. It is located in the geographical center of Downtown Dar es Salaam and is zeroed-in at a roundabout between Samora Avenue and Maktaba Street. Unveiled in 1927, the monument is focally known for a bronze statue of a Tanzanian soldier and is called ‘The Askari.’ The solider is mounted on a pedestal and is flashing his gun, which is pointed towards the Dar es Salaam harbour.
Azania Front Lutheran Church
The Azania Front Lutheran Church is a Lutheran church in Dar es Salaam. It serves as a cathedral for the local diocese. This church is a classic example of traditional Bavarian style of architecture and was built by the Germans in 1898. The Azania Front Lutheran Church was among the focal points of Protestant Christianity in Dar es Salaam during late 19th and early 20th century, and is still revered by several Christians.
Dar es Salaam Zoo
Dar es Salaam Zoo is one of the largest zoos in East Africa. It is located about 23 miles away from Downtown Dar es Salaam. It wows thousands of visitors every year with its several endemic and native animal species like zebras, crocodiles, antelopes, tortoises, leopards, snakes, tortoises and numerous bird species. Visitors can also enjoy a ride on some of the animals here like camels and horses. Dar es Salaam Zoo is consistently fed by Nguva River, a fact that accounts for ample water-supply and a cold, mild climate for the vegetation and birdlife here.
